As a newbie in gardening, there are several basic concepts that you must know regarding the use and maintenance of gardening tools. Buying the wrong set of tools which you can do without can be a total waste of your money. To earn more savings, sometimes you can even create improvised versions of gardening tools from tools that can already be found in your home. Improper usage and care of your garden tools can be a major cause of extra expenses. Therefore, it is best that you also provide attention to your garden tools even after using them.
Some basic garden tools include a hand trowel, a rake, a pair of gardening shears and a watering can. A hand trowel is a smaller version of a shovel that you can for digging the soil when planting. A rake is long gardening tool that is used to scrape off the ground with grasses and dried leaves. Its appearance resembles a giant fork with more teeth and a bended head. Garden shears is a specially designed tool used for cutting twigs and branches from plants, and it can also be used for cutting grasses. A watering can is large container that is used to water the plants in the garden. It is usually made of plastic or metal and it is composed of three basic parts: the handle, the container and the spout. A substitute for a watering can is a water hose but sometimes it is more practical to use the former because using a hose sometimes wastes a lot of water.
After your gardening activities, you should properly clean each tool before storing them. Remove the soil that have attached to your tools with water and wipe them clean afterwards with a dry cloth to prevent them from corroding. Regularly apply oil to your gardening shears to protect it from rusts. Make sure that every tool is clean before storing because forgetting to do such can cause them to wear away faster than expected.
