Wood-burning fireplaces are the oldest kind of fireplaces that are used decades ago. They are made from masonry materials such as concrete, bricks, and iron bars. Wood or specifically firewood is burned for it to provide light and heat to homes. The end products of burning wood are smoke and ash. To let smoke escape outside the house, a chimney is always built with a wood-burning fireplace.

Next common kind of fireplace is the electric fireplace. This came about just recently and this kind of fireplace is known to use electricity as its energy source. An electric fireplace imitates the effect of a wood-burning fireplace without the real flame. And because of that, an electric fireplace can be installed in the house without building a chimney for it, a proof that it is cheaper to be installed compared to the wood-burning fireplace.

The last common kind, ventless fireplaces are the least expensive of the three kinds mentioned. This kind of fireplace uses propane as its energy source which allows light and heat to be produced with least amount of emission thus making it chimneyless a possibility.

In warm regions, electrical devices such as fans and air-conditioning units should be strategically placed in locations that they can provide maximal ventilation. Electric fans should be located in areas where it will be able to suck in air from its back end and increase the cooling effect of the air as it leaves in the front end. Thus, it is strategic to put an electric fan beside a window or in an area far from a wall to allow it to provide it a space where it can suck in enough air. Air-conditioning units should be permanently fixed in a high area because it is a known fact the cool air comes down as warm air rises. With this location, the air coming out from the air-conditioning unit will be able to induce right circulation of cool and warm air.

In cool regions, having a wide open home to the external of the house can be sufficient in providing proper ventilation. Having large windows can allow cool air to enter the house from one point and warm air to leave the house in another point. But it is important to install screens in these large windows to prevent insects and other uninvited animals to enter the boundaries of the home.
